How to Improve Your CIBIL Score
Your CIBIL Score is a 3-digit number between 300 and 900 that reflects your credit history and repayment behaviour — essentially a trust score lenders use to judge how you've handled credit in the past.
Pay EMIs & Bills on Time
Payment history carries the most weight in your score. On-time payments build trust with lenders; late or missed payments hurt your score.
Keep Credit Utilisation Low
This is the share of your total available credit that you're actually using. Keeping it low signals healthier credit management.
Don't Close Old Accounts
A longer credit history works in your favour, so keeping older accounts with a good repayment record open is generally beneficial.
Maintain a Healthy Credit Mix
Having a mix of credit types — for example both secured loans and unsecured credit — reflects well on your profile.
Avoid Too Many Loan Enquiries
Checking your own score (a soft enquiry) doesn't affect it, but too many hard enquiries from lenders in a short span can lower it. Apply only when genuinely required.
Monitor Your Credit Report Regularly
Review your report periodically, dispute any incorrect entries, and watch for unfamiliar accounts that could signal identity theft.
Want help understanding your credit profile?
Our team can guide you on broad factors that may affect loan eligibility and documentation readiness.
Note: Credit score improvement is not guaranteed and may take time. The score is determined by the credit bureau based on your credit history and other applicable factors. Guidance above is based on CIBIL's own consumer education material.
